The connecting rod is the transmission element between the piston and crankshaft. It is used to convert the linear movement of the piston into the rotary motion of the crankshaft. During this process, enormous dynamic loads are exerted on this component. The quality of the so-called "two eyes", meaning the bearing bore and the piston pin bore is of great importance. Important test parameters are: diameter, center distance, form and location of the holes and the surface quality of the bearings. In some cases, the geometry of the screw thread of both bearing halves is also inspected.
